Welcome to the Consular Services of the High Commission of India, London. Applications for Consular Services except Passport and Visa can be deposited at the Consular Services counter at the High Commission, which is open from 0930 hours to 1200 hours on all working days during which 45 tokens are issued on first come first served basis. The time for collection of documents etc is 1630 hours to 1700 hours. Applicants for Consular Services are required to submit their Passports. All original documents must be submitted along with a photocopy. Consular Services are also available at our Consulate in Birmingham and Edinburgh. Applications can also be sent by post but must be accompanied by a stamped, self- addressed envelope. Fee for Consular Services is accepted in cash and through crossed postal orders in favour of The High Commission of India, London at the counter and only through crossed postal orders if the application is sent by post. Application forms can either be downloaded from the website or obtained from the counter. They can also be obtained through post by enclosing a self-addressed stamped envelope.

Attestation of Documents and Powers of Attorney.

Any affidavit, declaration or Power of Attorney to be used in India can be attested at the Consular counter of the High Commission. Any person who requires an affidavit or power of attorney to be used in India needs to bring the documents to be attested in original along with a photocopy, valid passport and the fee directly to the High Commission. In case of Powers of Attorney, a photograph of the executant(s) is also required. They are required to sign the documents in the presence of the Consular Officer.

In case a person is not able to come to the High Commission in person, he/she is required to get their documents (and photograph in cases of power of Attorney) attested by a British Notary Public and then by the Legalisation Section of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) (telephone number 020 7008 1111). These can then be mailed to the High Commission along with the fee and a stamped self-addressed envelope or can be submitted at the Consular Counter of the High Commission for attestation. Any document signed in the presence of a notary public must be attested by the Legalisation Section of the FCO.

Documents issued by institutions and authorities in the UK, are required to be first authenticated by the FCO before they can be attested by the High Commission, irrespective of the nationality of the applicant.

Birth, Death, Marriage and Educational Certificates etc. issued by the Indian authorities in India can also be attested by the Indian High Commission provided the same have been authenticated by the Consular Section of Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Patiala House, New Delhi-110001 or Branch Secretariat of Ministry of External Affairs, Kolkata (Tel -22802686). Registration of children eligible for Indian nationality

For a child born in the UK to be registered as an Indian citizen the application must be made within one year of the child's birth on the prescribed form.

Along with the application please enclose passports of both parents and a full version birth certificate of the child. Photocopies of the birth certificate and of the first four and last two pages of the parent's passports are also required. The fee for this service is �15. In case more than one year has elapsed since the birth of your child you also need to submit an affidavit stating that your child has not acquired British nationality. A similar letter from the Home Office in UK, confirming non-acquisition of British Nationality by the child is also required. If you wish to sponsor a person from India for a visit to the UK and wish to apply for a sponsorship letter you need to submit the application in the prescribed form.

Life certificates for Pensioners

To obtain a Life certificate from the High Commission the personal appearance of the applicant is usually necessary at the High Commission. The applicant needs to bring his/her passport to establish identity. The fee for this service is �8. In case you cannot come to High Commission for any reason, you would be required to send a certificate from your GP stating that you were alive on a given date. On the basis of your GP's certificate we will issue a certificate stating that according to your Doctor's certificate you were alive on a given date. Certificate for transporting dead bodies to India

The High Commission issues a certificate to enable transport of a dead body to India. For this the applicant needs to provide the deceased's death certificate, the Coroner's "Out of England Order", a doctor's "Free from Infection Certificate", an embalming certificate and a certificate from the undertaker confirming that the body has been packed in accordance with international regulations. Photocopies of all these documents are also required. The fee for this service is �15.
