To
All Notaries Public concerned

Dear Sir/Madam,

We would like to inform you that with a view to improving upon the present system of attestation of Powers of Attorney (POA) by Indian Diplomatic Missions abroad and to protect the interests of individuals, the Government of India have decided that henceforth while the Executants get their Powers of Attorney notarized by Notary Public locally at the same time they should also get their photographs attested by the Notary Public. In view of this, we would be grateful if you could kindly advise the Executants of the Powers of Attorney to affix a photograph on the POA and get the same duly attested by you before submitting the documents to the High Commission.

It has also come to our notice that in some cases three or four separate documents notarized separately by the Notary Public himself/herself have been stapled/combined together so as to create an impression to treat them as a single document. We would like to clarify here that we charge fees on the basis of number of signatures put by Notary Public. However, there are no fees for photographs affixed to the POA duly attested by the Notary Public. Accordingly, you may calculate the fees depending on the number of signatures you have put in.

NB: - With a view to improving upon the present system of attestation of Powers of Attorney (POA) by Indian Diplomatic Missions abroad and to protect the interests of individuals, the Government of India has decided that henceforth while the Executants get their Powers of Attorney notarised by Notary Public locally at the same time they should also get their photographs attested by the Notary Public. However, where the POA is notarised by the High Commission itself the photographs of the Executant has also be attested by the High Commission. In that case, the valid passport of the Executant should be produced to the Consular Counter as a proof of identity.
